On those summer afternoons and evenings when I would go to visit my friend NC, he would always be taking care of Casey, getting him in or out and trying to figure out which clothes Casey should wear. The selected suit depended upon the outside elements, the season, and which bugs would be the hungriest - flies, gnats, mosquitoes, etc. I helped where I could. I loved to help. I loved to watch Casey and NC as they interacted with each other. The bond, the connection, and the love they had for one another was nothing like I have ever seen before. That was a once-in-a-lifetime love. One that I will never get to see again. Casey would always bring a smile to my face. I chuckled at some of his antics, followed by a kiss or two. I always found myself searching for a clean towel as I exited the barn.
The passing of NC's beloved horse, Casey, left a hole in my heart, too. In the short time that I knew Casey, I had grown close to him. The only one that I knew that would listen and not give their advice or opinion was Casey. He just listened. Casey taught me to be a fighter when the storms of life hit. Casey was a fighter as well; He fought till the very end. I will always hold onto Casey’s unconditional love.
